Trabectedin has effective anti-tumor activity and is isolated from ecteinascidia turbinata, but due to the low content, the separation and purification process was extremely complex, with only less than one gram of Trabectedin being extracted from each ton of ecteinascidia turbinata. Due to its extremely complex molecular structure, Trabectedin is known as "the Mount Everest of drug synthesis". Spent three years exploring an alternative approach and adopted a total synthesis route, starting from the readily available natural substance tyrosine, and after only 26 reactions, obtained this drug molecule with a total yield of 1.6%. The researchers conducted detailed process studies on each step of the synthesis route for Trabectedin, summarized technical parameters, and ultimately achieved commercial production.
